With facing Newcastle on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup, it gives a chance to field players on the fringes of the first team, players returning from injury but just as importantly some of the younger players that will hope to break into the first team in the coming years.

Last year the competition saw faces like Larnell Cole, Michael Keane, Paul Pogba, and Zeki Fryers all make appearances and Rio Ferdinand hopes that will continue with this policy of using the competition to prepare some of the younger player for first team football.

The defender is likely to sit the game out but believes have enough talent to see off their opponents and has singled out a few faces that he hopes to see as he told ManUtd.Com:

“It’s great and I’m looking forward to maybe seeing our new signing Angelo Henriquez, who has come in from Chile.

“I’m sure will play and I’m looking forward to seeing him again too as he’s a very exciting prospect. I’m excited to perhaps see play and I think Larnell Cole [could feature] as well.

“There are loads of them and I could go on and on and be here all day. We have some really talented, players and I’m looking forward to seeing them.

“There is at the back too and hopefully they can stamp their authority on the cup this year.”
