Mesut Ozil vs Man United

Have Manchester United made a €45m move for German playmaker Mesut Ozil?

German daily Bild  have been reporting on United’s interest in Ozil over the past few days after missing out on him 3 years ago. With United’s pursuit of Luka Modric apparently heading into a cul-de-sac due to Xabi Alonso’s broken metatarsal, David Moyes has turned his attention to the Croatian’s team mate.

Ozil is reportedly worried about playing time at the Bernabeu this season ahead of next summer’s World Cup with the arrival Gareth Bale.

A move for the German would see United offering him the game time he seeks, but also finally securing the star signing Ed Woodward spoke of earlier in the summer.

Earlier this week speaking on TV show Punto Pelota, Josep Pedrerol said:

“We have already reported that Real Madrid in the next ten days will receive a range of 45 to 50 million for a major player.

“The offer is now coming Thursday or Friday. It is a top player who wants to be there at the World Cup.

“He thinks that his position is in danger due to the transfer of Bale and that he secures his World Cup participation with his move. If the offer takes it real.”

The Thursday/Friday deadline has now passed, so have United lodged a bid for Ozil?

The 24 year old joined Real Madrid in 2010 after impressing at the World Cup in South Africa for a fee thought to be in the €15m region, so if they manage to shift him for €45m it will come at a huge profit on their investment and go some way to funding the mega money signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham.
