After scoring his 10th goal of the season and helping Machester United to victory over his former club Arsenal, Jamie Redknapp believes Robin Van Persie is on course to emulate a United legend.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the last player to win back-to-back Footballer of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year and whilst it may still be early, the Sky Sports pundit believes there is no reason the Dutch striker can’t follow suit and bag both awards this season.

Speaking in The Daily Mail, the former midfielder remarked:

“Iyou could take one player from the Premier League at present, it would be Robin van Persie.

“He was outstanding again against Arsenal.

“Cristiano Ronaldo was the last man to win back-to-back Footballer of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year and there is no reason why Van Persie cannot do the same.”
